US Federal Agencies Follow the Chinese Proverb “KAIZEN” in their Web Designs

The ongoing economic crises between the two powerful nations; USA and China had created what is called the US-China rivalry. This war is based on the trade differences between the two countries.

General Service Administrations has introduced a new update called the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) maturity model in the Technological Transformative services were launched in 2015.

The purpose of this update is to maintain KAIZEN ‘continuous improvement’ in the web designs of every federal agency. There had been certain guidelines provided to the agencies and it is their responsibility to ensure that these are applied in the web designs. 

Dan Williams, the product lead of US web Design had said that these guidelines are to be followed like the rules of baseball. However, he also said that there is no stringency that all the websites must look alike but rather have the flexibility to adapt according to the specifications of the agency.

This web designing guideline has been used by more than 40 agencies. Two of which are the department of homeland security and the department of human and health services. It has helped in creating an emergency preparedness website for disastrous situations and a Stopbullying.gov website for human and health services.

Ammie Farraj, the head of GSA has proudly announced that this web designing update has received 14 billion sessions and more than 38 billion page views.  Farraj further said that the government agencies are now meet the customer expectations created by the private sector.

even though innovation portfolio director Jacob parcel said that there have been no announced deadlines to follow the compliance Each agency should have the following requirements mentioned in the legislations as GSA could use tools to track if the websites are not complying with the guidelines. The eight requirements are:

  • Searchable
  • 7   Secure
  • User-centered
