Google`s Interview Platform Byteboard’s Latest Features Are A Dream Come True for Web-Developers and Mobile Engineers

“Success today requires agility and drive constantly rethink, reinvigorate, react and reinvent,” this quote by Bill Gates perfectly describes the need for change and innovation in today's time. As the various software development companies had to hire developers and engineers, by testing them with the old school approach. But to tackle that, Area 120, lab of Google had landed a tool called ‘Byteboard’, which helps the company to take the interview of the user by examining them in a way that does not look outdated. The interviews, at many places, were not depended upon the latest technologies and tools, and with real-world problems to solve. Instead, it used to provide theoretical questions to solve with any programming language, the drawback of that was, many developers used to solve the problems successfully, later few of them did struggle in real application development. These approaches have been followed by companies for a long time, and even testing an employee with a full-fledged project is not practically easy. But Byteboard has introduced the system, which does the work easy for the company, by approaches that will surely let them test the developer who also can work on real-life projects. With a diverse approach, it not only ensures the company to have the best employee, but the approach followed by the Byteboard is also select the interviewer who is logical and creative, without going through all the theoretical process.

Software engineers with talent and good practical knowledge often had a hard time going through the theory-based interview, however logical questions are a must for everyone to be in the software industry. But the language developer being hired on the bases of a constant and same type of algorithms left many talented developers unqualified. However, the hired candidate may not be less intelligent than anyone, but the approach of testing should be the divers to test candidate with various methods. The Byteboard, for this concern, have introduced the platform, which is effective and equitable for all.

After introducing the Byteboard in July 2019, they have introduced the functions and features for the web developers and mobile developers, earlier it was generalized. Now in Nov, 2019, it is extended with new approaches, and it is called the Byteboard for web and mobile by them.  Let us deep dive into the world of Byteboard for web designer and mobile developers.

Byteboard gave Front-end’s Example

Front end developers used to go through processes which they did not required to. While the test of the front-end development they were given the questions regarding other expertise, which is not bad, but that diverted their focus and effected the confidence as they are experts in working on the front end and getting fewer marks and reviews create a big confidence issue for them. However, it has been the tradition followed by companies for many years, to check a developer in many areas of development.

Via Byteboard, the front-end developers can give interviews, which include front end terminology regarding technologies like HTML, CSS, Angular, React, Vue and few more. A front end developer will be focused on this, while Byteboard not only  work these things, but they also provide test regarding other domains but those would be the most valuable and needed domain, unlike other testing forums where they provide questions to candidate from almost every subject they have studied while studying in university or getting any certification. The value and quality are required in particular domains instead of some informal ideas about everything, according to the Byteboard. It saved front-end developers from overemphasizing on less relevant things, and divert full focus on most relevant domains.

The front-end, mobile developers, and web developers are the target for this. They have gone through much unnecessary procedure, and even companies had to invest unnecessary time to prepare unnecessary tests for them. Earlier tackling the back-end, now the front-end world had some joy with Byteboard.

The Change in Traditional Approach of Candidate Recruitment

Just after the 14 months of its inception, Byteboard is on the path to be the revolutionary. They have provided services to giant companies to analyses and test candidate for the back-end. In comparison to the front-end, the back-end is no easy thing to test as well. For companies, it was a load of work, for the sake of formality was always due before technical test.  Hundreds of hours of engineers and recruiters have been saved the Byteboard when interviews were maintained by it.

The technical interview which created by the it was client blindly, knowledge specific from the real-world related were given for the examination. By this, when a candidate is selected, they already know about the problem they have to solve in the industry. Instead, in traditional testing services, candidate go through various trainings, workshops and even revision to be prepared for the jobs that company provide. Byteboard may not help in hiring the expert candidate, but they will have abilities to be expert, due to passing the type of test Byteboard provide.

Be it front-end or back-end; the Byteboard have access of test in seven languages, including Java, C++, Python, Ruby, C#, JavaScript and Go. The interviewers will be giving a test with their own choice of programming language, with no restriction of choosing only one language provided by the company.

Role related to computer science, code fluency, growth mindset, and personality type are tested, to be specific. The test is finally checked by the experts and experienced software engineers working in the company for years. The level of each role is tested and then a profile of the candidate is created on the bases of the result. The profile will be the final result to tell if a candidate is hired, or they need more time to be prepared for the job.

The approach is preferred by the major tech companies like Lyft, Better, and Quibi, who had tested and hired candidate via Byteboard. In the meantime, it can go global and have the potential to become the essential element of the interview in companies globally.
